There is something almost mysterious about the quality of light in the Leelanau Peninsula.
More than a decade ago, Frank Speyers set out from the Thoreson Farm as a Glen Arbor Art Center Artist-in-Residence to chase down that iconic mystery of this near paradise up North.
Painting ancient natural features along M22 from clear inland lakes, winding roads, the windswept bluffs of Sleeping Bear Dunes, as well as weathered farmhouses, he sought the mysterious and found something that hints at the transcendent with a refreshing flavor that is as unmistakable as it is hard to define.
Frank’s work not only celebrates the seasonal cycles but also hearkens to that which is beyond the grasp of the empirical.
Frank’s latest works are on display here.
